The Myanmar Ministry of Commerce, based on the reasonable profits of farmers, rice mills, and distributors, and referencing last year's market prices, global market prices, and other commodity prices, announced the rice sales guidance price for August. Ordinary quality rice is priced at 59,000 to 71,000 Myanmar kyat (approximately 97 to 116 Chinese yuan) per 108-pound bag (about 49 kilograms), export-standard rice is priced at 68,000 to 78,000 Myanmar kyat (112 to 128 Chinese yuan) per bag, while some varieties, 90-day early-maturing rice, and rice produced in the Irrawaddy, Yangon, and Bago regions are priced at 79,000 to 99,000 Myanmar kyat (130 to 162 Chinese yuan) per bag; medium-high quality rice is priced at 90,000 to 155,000 Myanmar kyat (147 to 254 Chinese yuan) per bag.
The Myanmar Ministry of Commerce requires that the selling price must not exceed the guidance price by more than 8%. The Myanmar Rice Association stated that actions such as excessively high selling prices, short-weight, and non-compliant product quality will be subject to fines, taxation, and prosecution.
