The Namibian Ministry of Agriculture is contemplating the establishment of a veterinary barrier at the border with Angola to prevent the spread of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP) into the Northern Community Areas (NCAs). This decision follows a successful vaccination campaign against these diseases in the previous fiscal year, which saw over 1.1 million cattle vaccinated against CBPP and over 500,000 against FMD. The ministry is optimizing livestock diseases management to maintain the health of livestock and enable the export of beef to international markets, thereby supporting the economic well-being of rural communities.
