In February, Namibia experienced a positive trend in livestock marketing, with significant increases in cattle and sheep marketing year-on-year, reaching 21.7% and 11.1% respectively. However, goat marketing saw a decrease of 53.7%, while pigs experienced a drop of 5.5%. The average auction prices for cattle and sheep also increased by 6% and 7.2% respectively, indicating a healthy market. Live cattle exports also surged by 30.1%, with sheep and pigs exports also showing positive growth. The Meat Board reported that 65% of processed beef exports were shipped to Europe, with South Africa and Botswana being the primary destinations for sheep and pigs respectively. This surge in livestock marketing is attributed to the successful herd restocking initiatives and the higher prices paid by export abattoirs.
