(Namwon=Yonhap News) Reporter Baek Do-in = On the 26th, the Wonhwang pear from Namwon, Jeonbuk Province, was shipped to Taiwan.
The shipment on this day amounted to 16 tons, and a total of 96 tons is expected to be exported to overseas markets, including Taiwan, by the end of the year.
Namwon pears are highly regarded abroad as a luxury gift fruit due to their high sugar content and rich juice.
This year, along with pears, Campbell grapes and Shine Muscat are also being exported.
Mayor Choi Kyung-sik said, "Namwon agricultural products are gaining recognition for their quality, and exports are showing a positive trend," and added, "We will strengthen quality management and expand sales channels to increase farmers' income."
