The North Atlantic Pelagic Advocacy Group (NAPA), a global coalition of retailers and supply chain businesses, has extended its Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) until 2026 to advocate for responsible management of pelagic fisheries and sustainable catch shares. The FIPs aim to address the political deadlock regarding the sustainable management of mackerel, blue whiting, and Atlanto-Scandian herring in the North East Atlantic. Despite the progress shown by the recent catch-sharing agreement among the UK, Norway, and the Faroe Islands, NAPA emphasizes the need for a broader consensus including all Coastal States. The extended FIPs will focus on proposing solutions, sharing novel research, and pushing for comprehensive quota-sharing agreements to ensure long-term environmental and business security.
