Peru: Grain export grew 42% in the first quarter of 2024

The Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Elizabeth Galdo, highlighted that the export of Andean grains, which includes quinoa, giant corn, chia, kiwicha, tarwi and cañihua, reached 42.6 million dollars in the first four months of 2024, which represents an increase of 42.5% compared to the same period in 2023. Within the framework of the National Andean Grains Day, celebrated every June 30, the positive performance of these products was highlighted, which are demanded in international markets for their high nutritional value, which makes them part of the superfoods. According to information from Mincetur, in the first four months of the year the export of quinoa increased, reaching 35 million dollars (45.2%), giant corn from Cusco that reached shipments of 4 million (61.3%), kiwicha, with exports worth $900,000 (96.6%); and cañihua, with shipments for 26,000 dollars (202.3%).
