Since 2021, every second Friday of November, Peru celebrates the National Flower Day with the aim of promoting the productivity, competitiveness, and expansion of the floriculture chain, taking advantage of national and international market opportunities. According to the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri), in the country there are more than 4,000 hectares and more than 7,000 producers dedicated to the cultivation of cut flowers and ornamental plants, which allows meeting the domestic and export demand. This activity is mainly carried out by small farmers who manage, on average, 0.6 hectares each, belonging to Family Agriculture. More than 50% of them are women, who generate permanent rural employment with between 5 and 8 workers per hectare. The cultivation of flowers in Peru is mainly concentrated in the regions of Junín, Cajamarca, Huánuco, Lima Provinces, Ancash, Ica, Arequipa, Cusco, and San Martín, among others.
