Nematodes: Experts Warn of the Advance of Race 4+ in Soybean Crops in MT

Research and sampling conducted by the Agricultural Research Support Foundation of Mato Grosso (Fundação MT) identified a worrying growth in the population of various soybean cyst nematode races, especially race 4+. Although present in several productive regions, the predominance of race 4+ was noted in crops located in the Sorriso region, in the mid-north of the state. The data highlights that the population of this cyst nematode race is difficult to control and is advancing significantly in areas using soybean cultivars without specific resistance. "We observed the increase of race 4+, especially where cultivars do not present resistance to this race. This indicates that we need to review the soybean varieties used by producers and adopt more effective control strategies," warns the nematology PhD researcher from Fundação MT, Tânia Santos.
