Thailand's onion planting area has decreased by 3.34%, leading to a reduction in yield and a rise in prices due to farmers switching to other crops. The country's main source of onion production is Chiang Mai, with Chiang Rai and Nakhon Sawan being the next largest producers. The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives is implementing measures to manage onion products and prevent falling prices, including distributing products outside of major production areas and establishing a linkage in the onion futures market. However, heavy rain and cold weather have damaged seedlings and affected onion quality. Despite these challenges, onion prices are expected to increase in the coming months and Thailand's onion exports to Japan have seen a significant increase in value compared to the same period last year.
