Texas grapefruit producers have approved access to the South Korean market, valued at $5 million annually, following inspection and approval by South Korea's animal and plant quarantine organization, APQA. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) now needs to ensure exported grapefruits are pest-free, specifically without the Mexican fruit fly. Dale Murden, president of Texas Citrus Mutual, expresses optimism for offering South Korea delicious grapefruits and hopes for a lasting partnership, as Texas becomes the third U.S. state to export grapefruits to South Korea, joining California and Florida.
