The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in Spain has approved a new regulation to boost the olive oil sector for the period 2024-2029. This regulation, backed by the Interprofessional Organization of Spanish Olive Oil, will be enforced from October 2024 and will mandate a financial contribution from olive oil producers. At least 80% of the funds collected will be dedicated to marketing and promoting olive oil, with the remaining 20% used for research, development, and technological innovation. A flat rate contribution of six euros per tonne of olive oil will be imposed, with half of the contribution for production and processing, and the other half for marketing/packaging.
