New extension of standards for the Spanish olive oil sector approved

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has announced today the approval of the new extension of regulations for the Spanish olive oil sector, published in the Official State Gazette. This measure, promoted by the Interprofessional Organization of Spanish Olive Oil, aims to strengthen the promotion, information and development of the sector during the next five campaigns (2024-2029). The extension of the regulation, which will come into force in October 2024, establishes a mandatory financial contribution to finance key activities in the sector. At least 80% of the total collected will be allocated to the promotion of olive oil and the encouragement of its consumption, while up to 20% will be allocated to the improvement of information on production and markets, as well as to research, development and technological innovation programs.
