The European Union (EU) has been granted fishing rights for chub mackerel in the North Pacific by the North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC) at their 2024 annual session in Osaka, Japan. This opportunity, for the second year running, marks the EU's full participation in the NPFC and extends its fishing fleet's reach into a new zone. As a full member, the EU is committed to promoting sustainability in international fisheries. The NPFC is a regional body dedicated to the conservation and sustainable use of North Pacific fisheries resources. The EU's participation in the NPFC aligns with its environmental and fishing policies, including the European Green Deal and the common fisheries policy.
