The European Commission has approved the request to add 'Vanille de l'île de La Réunion' to the Register of Protected Geographical Indications (PGI). This means that vanilla produced on Reunion Island, known for its unique aroma and quality, will now be officially recognized and protected under this status. The approval highlights the island's distinctive climate and the expertise of its producers, marking it as a source of high-quality vanilla. This new addition will join 1,562 other food products already registered in the eAmbrosia database.
