The Department of Intellectual Property in Thailand has registered two new Geographical Indication (GI) products, Phichit white rice and Higashine cherry from Japan, bringing the total number of Thai GI products to 137. The Phichit white rice is known for its unique taste and texture, while the Higashine cherry is cultivated in Japan and is famous for its taste and appearance. The Department aims to register 15 new GI products this year to strengthen the foundation economy and create more value for the products. The Department also plans to establish a control system for GI products to maintain quality and promote both domestic and international markets.
