Scientists from Kenya have successfully created a new genetically modified (GMO) potato variety that is resistant to late blight, a destructive disease. The variety has been tested in field sites in Uganda, Kenya, and Nigeria, and it has shown a yield of more than 40 tons per hectare without the need for chemical fungicides, exceeding the current African average of 10 tons per hectare. This new variety is expected to reduce crop losses, improve the economic situation of farmers, and have a positive impact on the environment by reducing the use of agrochemicals.
