[Korean Farmers' News Agency, Reporter Kim Young-min] A new rice variety that can be planted in rotation with income crops such as garlic and onions, due to its short cultivation period, has been developed and is expected to be distributed to farms starting next year. The National Institute of Crop Science announced that it has developed a new rice variety called "Neuldam," suitable for consecutive planting with income crops such as garlic and onions. The maturation period of Neuldam is 96 days, which is short, making it convenient for cultivation, and the yield per 10 ares is 446 kg, which is higher than that of Geumo, the standard short-term rice variety, which has a yield of 432 kg per 10 ares and a maturation period of 100 days. Neuldam has a sturdy stem, making it resistant to lodging, and it is also resistant to major diseases including blast, white leaf blight, and stripe leaf blight.
