The USDA Dairy World Markets and Trade report projects that New Zealand's cheese production will reach 375,000 tons in 2024, with a significant portion of this production being exported. The country has diversified its cheese portfolio thanks to recent investments in processing facilities, now producing a variety of soft cheeses such as brie, blue cheese, and gouda. Despite having a modest domestic consumption of about 40,000 tons, New Zealand's cheese production is primarily aimed for international markets. In the current year, the country is expected to export around 350,000 tons of cheese, with China, Japan, and Australia being its main export destinations.
