Russian fishermen have already harvested 14 thousand tons

Considering that the national quota this year is three times larger than last year, fishermen need to increase their fishing efforts in order to maximize the volume allocated to Russia. The development of the fishing situation was discussed at a meeting of the headquarters for the operational regulation of capelin production in the Barents Sea, which was chaired by Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Vasily Sokolov in the VKS mode. By February 27, there were 10 vessels fishing for capelin in the Barents Sea (three vessels more than on the same date in 2023), operating under quotas of 10 users. The main contribution to the total catch was made by two fishing companies - RPK Rybflot-FOR and PJSC MTF - almost 7 thousand tons (47%). At the moment, the fishing situation remains unstable, aggregations of capelin are small and scattered, but poutine is entering an active phase: March is the main harvest time.
