The African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) has introduced planting windows for cowpea, also known as beans, to help Nigerian farmers mitigate the effects of climate change. This initiative, aimed at improving bean productivity, which has been declining due to irregular rainfall patterns, includes a cowpea field spanning over 35 hectares in Pandagric Farms, Nasarawa State. AATF's regional representative, Dr Jean Baptiste, advised farmers in various regions to follow these planting windows to avoid climate uncertainties and make the best use of available rainfall. The Foundation is promoting the use of a pod borer resistant cowpea variety, which has proven to be highly productive and preferred by farmers due to its early maturation, reduced chemical use, and high yield.
