Key stakeholders in Zambia's onion and potato value chain have agreed that the country does not need to import these commodities due to sufficient local stocks. This conclusion was reached in a meeting in Lusaka and was emphasized by the Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU). The union's president, Jervis Zimba, indicated that the focus is now on boosting local production and adding value to potatoes. The decision aims to protect local farmers and promote the local agro-processing industry, with ongoing consultations to monitor the availability of these commodities.
