The Rural Development Administration of South Korea has forecasted a slight decrease in North Korea's food crop production for 2024, estimating a total production of 4.78 million tons, down by 0.8% from 2023. This projection is based on an comprehensive analysis of weather conditions, pest situations, and fertilizer supplies. The forecasted production figures for each crop include 2.15 million tons of rice, 1.61 million tons of corn, 540,000 tons of potatoes and sweet potatoes, 280,000 tons of wheat and barley, 180,000 tons of soybeans, and 20,000 tons of other grains. The report highlights variations in production levels for each crop, attributing increases in rice and wheat production to favorable weather conditions, while noting decreases in corn, potatoes, and sweet potatoes as a result of adverse weather such as heavy rain and high temperatures.
