The Norwegian Seafood Council provides an overview of Norwegian seafood exports to Ukraine, Russia, and the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), including Belarus, in 2021. Ukraine received 1.8% of the total export value with an export value of NOK 2.2 billion, mainly consisting of salmon, trout, herring, and mackerel. Russia received 0.2% of the total export value with an export value of NOK 248 million, mainly live salmonids, feed, and ingredients for feed. The EEU, including Russia, accounted for 1.7% of the total export value with an export value of NOK 2 billion. Belarus received 0.9% of the total export value with an export value of NOK 1.14 billion, mainly trout, herring, and salmon. Air freight to Asia accounted for 12% of Norwegian seafood exports with a value of NOK 14.5 billion in 2021. The situation in Ukraine is escalating, leading to a stop in seafood exports to the country, and the closure of airspace affecting air freight to Asia. The potential impact of international sanctions and countersanctions on Norwegian seafood exports to the EEU is also anticipated.
