The European Union (EU) has implemented an anti-deforestation law since May 2023, which requires due diligence on products like palm oil, coffee, cocoa, wood, rubber, and cattle, traded to the area. This move is part of Europe's non-price competition strategy, aiming to hinder palm oil trade, including that from Indonesia. The Executive Director of the Palm Oil Agribusiness Strategic Policy Institute (PASPI) stated that palm oil is an important commodity for Indonesia, contributing significantly to its foreign exchange and having various uses in the food, oleochemical, and bioenergy industries.
