Arsenio García Vidal and Isidoro Alonso, representatives of ASAJA León and a hop grower in Gavilanes de Órbigo, participated in a videoconference meeting of the Copa-Cogeca Hops Working Group in Brussels to discuss the sector's challenges. The meeting focused on the impact of the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), harvest and market situations, and regulations affecting the hop industry. High production costs, a 28% decrease in EU hop production, and the effects of climate change on hop quality are among the concerns. The inability to pass on increased costs and reduced yields threaten the profitability of hop producers, particularly with the industry already facing serious market difficulties.
