The number of dairy cull cows slaughtered in the US has decreased for a full year, reaching its lowest level since 2009 in November 2024. The total was 210,300, a decrease of 25,300 from October and 19,400 fewer than November 2023. The average number of heads slaughtered per business day was around 8,100, down about 700 from the previous year. The Southwest and Upper Midwest regions saw the highest number of dairy cow culls. The USDA also estimated that the dairy cow population in the US was 9.365 million in November 2024, a decrease of 5,000 from October.
