The article provides an overview of the current situation with the production and pricing of various agricultural products in Hungary, with a focus on early peppers and other horticultural goods like cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, parsley root, and asparagus. It highlights that while consumer prices for early peppers have remained stable since 2004-2005, producer prices are significantly higher than last year, with paprika experiencing an 18% increase. This is attributed to increased costs in horticulture and the absence of Turkish vegetables in the European market due to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Despite potential concerns about inflation and market dynamics, including a decrease in open-field cultivation and an increase in professional sprouting farms, the author assures that there is no forecast of shortages but possibly higher prices, especially if European production declines further.
