Egypt has emerged as a global leader in citrus production, dominating the market with about 2.3 million tons produced annually since 2019, as reported by Dr. Hossam Mahfouz, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture in Nubaria. The country's citrus exports, encompassing primarily oranges, have seen a significant surge, generating $5.1 billion in revenue compared to $3.3 billion two years earlier. Spain and South Africa, among other regions, have shown a preference for Egyptian citrus, with oranges making up 80% of citrus exports, followed by mandarins and tangerines. Egypt's success in citrus exports is attributed to the high quality of its produce, adherence to international standards, and efforts to increase production efficiency. Ongoing negotiations aim to further expand Egyptian citrus exports to American markets, overcoming challenges in shipping costs and transportation times.
