Agro Yug Export, which cultivates watermelons in the Odesa region's Suvorov village, is expecting high prices this year due to cold weather conditions that have negatively affected watermelon and cantaloupe development. These crops require a minimum night temperature of 15 degrees and daytime temperatures of 25-30 degrees to grow properly. The cold spring and summer so far have resulted in lost crops for vegetable growers who sowed watermelons early. Ihor Syerikov, an agronomist with the company, predicts that melon prices could surpass last year's rates, where watermelons were sold at UAH 30/kg.
