"Xia Nü," "Fēng Líng," "Qi Ming Xing"... Since this year, Dalian has seen the emergence of a series of new blueberry varieties with completely independent intellectual property rights.
The 14th Special Exchange Fair featured the concentrated release of 26 patented products and intellectual property service products that embody core competitiveness, making it a highlight of this year's event. Among them, Dalian University made a significant announcement with the release of two new blueberry varieties with independent intellectual property rights, attracting widespread attention from the audience.
It is reported that the university has released nine new blueberry varieties this year. This blueberry industry revolution, driven by "China's Core," is shining a bright light of self-driven innovation in Dalian.
Official Release
Two New Blueberry Varieties "Launched"
On October 15, the launch of "China's Core" new blueberry varieties was held at the 14th Special Exchange Fair, where the Dalian University Blueberry Biological Breeding Technology Team officially released two new blueberry varieties with independent intellectual property rights, "Lian Da Zhi Chun" and "Fēng Líng." Earlier in July of this year, Dalian University had already released seven other new blueberry varieties with independent intellectual property rights, including "Lian Da Chu Xin," "Lian Da You Xuan," "Lian Da Zhi Hai," "Xia Nü," "Qi Ming Xing," "Yu Mei Lan," and "Lie Yan."
These new varieties not only excel in taste, size, aroma, and storage resistance but also have strong adaptability and high yield, representing another golden business card for Dalian agriculture, following the success of large cherries.
Over 20 Years of Breeding
Dalian Blueberry "China's Core" Emerges
Blueberries are known as the "king of berries," and their unique flavor, nutrition, and health benefits are deeply loved by people. Although Dalian is the cradle of commercial blueberry cultivation in China, it has long suffered from the "pain of having no core."
"Dalian's blueberry industry has been developing for nearly 20 years. In the past, most of the varieties planted were imported ones. Not only in Dalian, but also in other blueberry production areas in China, almost all the main varieties planted were imported ones." Wang Hexin, the director of Dalian University's Modern Agricultural Research Institute, explained. As early as 2003, they began to gather research bases and variety resource orchards, introducing over 80 excellent varieties from abroad. At that time, the blueberry industry, which was quite developed abroad, was still in its infancy in China. This move solved the problem of variety shortage in the development of China's blueberry industry.
"Seeds are the core of agriculture. Without our own varieties, the industry can only forever follow others. The future of China's blueberry industry must solve the problem of independent intellectual property rights." In 2005, Wang Hexin established the Dalian University Blueberry Biological Breeding Technology Team to carry out blueberry breeding work, using "small blueberries" to support the "big industry."
From a team of seven to a research force of over a hundred, Wang Hexin led the team in deep cultivation for over twenty years, growing from small to large, from weak to strong, becoming a top biological breeding force in the country. They established China's largest blueberry germplasm resource orchard, applied for over 300 new national varieties, accounting for 70% of the national total, providing a solid "China's core chip" to solve the "bottleneck" problem of China's blueberry industry.
Now, these new varieties with large fruits, rich aroma, good taste, and strong storage and transportation capabilities are replacing the traditional imported varieties, becoming the fruit that Dalian farmers can't stop talking about for getting rich.
