Olive oil prices in Greece are deteriorating due to a lack of interest from traders to purchase at higher prices and increasing stockpiles at olive mills. Last week, a tender for 30 tons of extra virgin olive oil was unsuccessful in Crete, and a recent sale in Laconia resulted in a price of 5.25 euros per kilo, despite the market offering up to 5.30 euros per kilo. The low prices of Tunisian olive oil in the Italian market, due to large imports and unfair competition, are also impacting producer prices in Italy and are a concern for Italian organizations. Greek producers are making efforts not to sell at low prices, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is called upon to address the issue of imports from Tunisia or other third countries.
