In 2024, China imported 345.8 thousand tons of wheat from the Russian Federation, according to the General Administration of Customs of the PRC. This is 2.5 times more than in 2023. Despite such significant growth in imports, Russia was the last in terms of volume as a supplier of wheat to this country. In total, in 2024, China purchased 11.0 million tons of wheat worldwide, including just over 3.3 million tons from Australia, over 2.5 million tons from Canada, about 2.3 million tons from France, 1.9 million tons from the USA, and about 0.6 million tons from Kazakhstan. For comparison, imports into China from all countries in 2023 amounted to 11.9 million tons, and in 2022, they were 9.9 million tons. In 2025, amid an increase in the volume of wheat harvests, China significantly reduced imports.
