Only 15.15 per cent of the arable land in Baglung district has irrigation facilities out of a total of 178,400 hectares. The province and federal government have planned to invest Rs 222 million to provide irrigation facilities, with 104 provincial and 20 federal schemes under implementation. Despite increased demand for irrigation, Baglung is yet to become self-sufficient in food, with decreased production due to lack of irrigation and only 18,690 metric tons of paddy harvested from more than 6,000 hectares of land last year.
