The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) took part in consultations with representatives of the European Commission from the Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (SANTE) regarding the epizootic situation related to the disease scrapie in sheep and goats, and the possibility of implementing emergency protective vaccination as part of the control and prevention measures, the agency's press office reported. The discussions were held at the initiative of the Bulgarian side, with the aim of exchanging expert opinions and outlining possible approaches to limit the spread of the disease. The European Commission emphasized that it is aware of the challenges facing Bulgaria and the sector. It was pointed out that vaccination does not represent a universal solution but should be considered as a last resort in combination with all other measures provided for in European legislation.
