Al-Ula, in western Saudi Arabia, is a major producer of dates, with over 2 million date trees producing around 90,000 tons of dates annually, primarily Barni dates. These dates are exported globally, including to the Netherlands. The Saudi government is planning to diversify its economy and sustainably develop its agricultural sector, especially in Al-Ula. The plans include improving date production quality, consultancy and training, e-commerce, and offer opportunities for Dutch companies.
