Dong Nai province in Vietnam is focusing on supporting businesses, cooperatives, and farmers to diversify the consumption channels of agricultural products and improve processing technology, with the goal of promoting the linkage of agricultural value chains and making use of export opportunities from new generation free trade agreements (FTAs). However, the agricultural sector is facing challenges such as African swine fever, climate change, market decreases, trade wars, and disruptions due to the Covid-19 epidemic. The province has potential for agricultural exports such as cashew, pepper, coffee, and rubber, but faces competitive pressure in the domestic market and pressure to meet export quality standards. New-generation FTAs open up opportunities for preferential tariffs and non-tariffs, and help restructure import and export markets in a more balanced direction.
