Mexico's meat consumption is expected to reach 82.5 kilograms per capita in 2033, making up two-thirds of the US's total meat consumption. Poultry will lead in consumption, followed by pork and then beef. To meet this demand, Mexico plans to increase both imports and domestic production, with chicken and pork imports expected to grow by 31% and 17% respectively, while beef imports may decrease by 5%. Additionally, imports of corn, soybeans, and soybean meal are anticipated to rise as livestock production increases. From 1993 to 2023, Mexico saw significant increases in corn, soybean, and soybean meal imports, and meat production. The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and its successor, the USMCA, have played a key role in this market integration.
