In 2024, California has set a new record for summer strawberry plantings at 11,209 acres, continuing a decade-long trend of increased summer transplants harvested in the fall. The percentage of summer plantings has risen from 10% to 27% of total California strawberry production since 2012, driven by growing consumer demand in the fall. Organic strawberry sales have also surged, with 1.9 million new organic buyers in the past year, and 29% of strawberry buyers now opting for organic. Weekly volume estimates for California strawberries show variability, with potential volumes ranging from 5.5 to 6 million packages per week. Despite potential declines compared to last year and the three-year average between August 17 and September 7, excellent quality and abundant supply are expected for August and September promotions.
