Outlook for 2035, meat production in the European Union

The European Commission anticipates a 0.2% decrease in total animal protein production in the European Union for the next decade. According to its meat sector forecast report, this will fall from 41.81 million tonnes in 2024 to 40.96 mt. in 2035. Decrease in beef production and consumption Beef production will experience a 0.6% decrease, reaching 6.28 million tonnes, this would respond to factors such as the low profitability of the sector, the increase in costs and stricter environmental regulations. In parallel, per capita consumption will also decrease by 0.6%, standing at 9.2 kilograms. Decline in pig farming: sustainability challenges As for pork products, these will decrease to 20.08 mt. for the next decade, largely due to growing concerns about sustainability and criticism of intensive farming systems.
