The Mekong Delta region in Vietnam is facing challenges in selling its summer-autumn rice crop, which has yielded 8.6 million tons, due to the impact of COVID-19 and government directives. The region is also struggling with falling prices and difficulties in selling below production costs. An Giang province, in particular, has a surplus of 150,000 tons of sticky rice due to decreased demand from Chinese traders. The province is seeking solutions to purchase rice from farmers urgently to prevent quality issues and maintain prices. The region is also dealing with issues in human resources and transportation of agricultural products. The prices of many agricultural products have significantly dropped due to the COVID-19 epidemic and the peak harvest season, further exacerbating the challenges faced by farmers.
