Ukraine's egg market is experiencing a supply glut despite a record export volume, with monthly production exceeding 100 million eggs. This oversupply is due to an increase in the number of laying hens by farmers, who are now struggling as the poultry meat market is already saturated and the chicken population reduction is limited. The country's egg exports, mainly to European countries like Poland and Italy, have seen a significant growth in the first half of 2024. However, prolonged power outages are expected during the winter, which could lead to a rise in egg prices within Ukraine. The oversupply could also negatively affect European markets, prompting Latvia to consider imposing an import tax on Ukrainian eggs to maintain market equilibrium.
