To manage processing capacities amid limited domestic production, Pakistan has approved the import of genetically modified (GMO) soybeans and canola for the 2025/26 MY, reports World Grain citing FAS USDA. Pakistan's National Biosafety Committee allowed the import of GMO canola for food, feed, and industrial purposes, and the Environmental Protection Agency extended GMO soybean import licenses for another year. Despite programs to support domestic soybean cultivation, the country's own soybean harvest is projected at 1 million tons, as commercial cultivation has not yet reached a significant scale, so its import in the 2025/26 MY will increase compared to the previous season from 1.97 to 2.4 million tons. The main supplier of soybeans to Pakistan remains Brazil (1.48 million tons in 2024-25), followed by the United States (294 thousand tons) and Ukraine (256 thousand tons).
