Brazil: Holidays and increased papaya supply lead to new price drops

After a few weeks of high prices, papaya prices in the main producing regions fell this week (11/18 to 11/22). According to collaborators at Hortifrúti/Cepea, the holidays throughout the month contributed to the lower demand for the fruit in the main consumption centers in the country. In addition, the increase in supply, mainly from Hawaii, is also one of the factors that explains the lower prices this week. In fact, in the North of Espírito Santo, the 12-18 type variety was traded at R$0.61/kg, a 36% drop compared to the previous week.
