The USDA GAIN report forecasts a 4% decrease in Paraguay's beef exports in 2025, totaling 450,000 tons cwe, primarily due to reduced supplies. The opening of the US and Canadian beef markets in 2024 is expected to offset this decline, with Paraguayan beef meeting their high sanitary standards and competition expected to expand to other markets. In the first seven months of 2024, Paraguay exported 195,000 tons cwe of beef to over 50 markets, with Taiwan, Russia, Hong Kong, Israel, the US, and Chile being the main recipients. Chile remains the largest market, importing about 50% of its beef from Paraguay. Israel is a growing market, allowing imports of bone-in beef, and the EU provides a quota for high premium chilled cuts. The US and Canadian markets, recently opened, are becoming significant opportunities for Paraguayan beef, with Canada importing 3-4,000 tons product weight in 2024. The government and local beef industry are working on opening additional markets in Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Indonesia.
