The demand for plant-based meat in Russia is expected to grow by 15% by the end of 2023, fueled by inflation and rising meat prices. Beyond Meat, the leading plant-based meat manufacturer, entered the Russian market in 2019 and products were available in various retail and restaurant chains. More local companies have also started producing plant-based meat, and there is a growing demand for these products even among non-vegan consumers. Scientists have found that replacing half of animal products with plant-based alternatives can significantly reduce deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions associated with agriculture. However, doctors express concerns about completely replacing meat in the diet.
