A company representative has been caught selling around 58.2 tons of Chinese peeled garlic as domestic garlic in South Korea for about two years, starting in August 2020. The individuals, aged in their 50s and 60s, sold the Chinese garlic at the peeled garlic factory in Cheongyang-gun, Chungcheongnam-do, with a market value of 410 million won. They took advantage of consumer preference for domestic products and the price gap between domestic and Chinese garlic, potentially making an unfair profit of around 200 million won. They also used the 'Nonghyup' trade name without permission to deceive consumers. The individuals have been accused of violating the law on the labeling of origin of agricultural and marine products.
