In Vietnam, the fusion of green mangosteen with chicken salad has led to a culinary trend that's significantly driven up the price of pre-peeled green mangosteen by 20-30% from the previous year, now costing 700,000-800,000 VND per kilogram, which is notably five times the price of chicken, the dish's primary component. This surge in demand has resulted in daily orders in the hundreds, despite the price hike. However, gardeners are hesitant to sell the fruit in bulk, fearing it might impact future harvests and potentially lead to an oversupply. Grown mainly in Vietnam's Southeast region, the popularity of green mangosteen has spiked prices at the start of this year's harvest season. With over 10,000 hectares dedicated to mangosteen cultivation, Vietnam produces nearly 50,000 tons of the fruit, catering to both domestic consumption and international markets, including the US, China, and Australia.
