In September 2024, Vietnam ranked as the world's largest pepper exporter, successfully exporting 17,138 tons of pepper, predominantly black pepper (15,232 tons) and white pepper (1,906 tons), generating a total export turnover of 109.8 million USD. The United States emerged as the leading consumer of Vietnamese pepper, with a significant 35.5% decrease in imports compared to the previous month. Despite this setback, the US market remains a crucial one for Vietnamese pepper. The export prices for both black and white pepper saw an increase in September. Aside from the US, Vietnam's pepper exports found a strong reception in the UAE, Hong Kong, Germany, and the Netherlands, marking a notable increase in exports to Europe. The African market, particularly Egypt and South Africa, also showed a substantial 14.6% increase in imports compared to the previous year. Overall, from July to September, Vietnam's pepper exports to Asia, Europe, and Africa experienced mixed results, with Asia's share decreasing by 33.7% due to reduced exports to China, while Europe's share surged by 33.6%. This performance highlights a resilient rebound in the global pepper market, with Vietnam maintaining its dominant position and showing adaptability to changing market dynamics.
