On July 17, 2024, global pepper prices experienced a slight decline, with notable decreases in Indonesia and Brazil. In Indonesia, Lampung black pepper and Muntok white pepper dropped to 7,190 USD/ton and 9,154 USD/ton respectively, while Brazil's ASTA 570 black pepper fell to 7,125 USD/ton. In Vietnam, black pepper prices ranged from 6,000 to 6,600 USD/ton, and white pepper remained steady at 8,800 USD/ton. Domestically, Vietnamese pepper prices also decreased to around 148,000 - 149,000 VND/kg. Experts anticipate a reduction in pepper output in 2024 due to prolonged droughts in major producing countries, which could impact imports and prices.
