Approximately 200 persimmon producers in the Mexican municipality of Allende, Chihuahua, are expecting a good harvest of the exotic fruit in October. The Soto Armendariz family has been producing persimmons for over 60 years, and the fruit is known for its unique taste, resembling that of a prickly pear, and is usually eaten whole or with the peel. The price per piece is around 10 to 12 pesos. The tree requires careful maintenance and is only found in a few areas due to its rarity.
