The International Potato Center (CIP), based in Peru, plans to establish a new branch in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, India, at a cost of around Rs 120 crore. The new center will occupy a 10-hectare site and will aim to provide high-quality potato seeds to farmers, potentially increasing crop yields and income. The branch will also focus on developing new, highly productive and processable potato varieties. This initiative is expected to benefit farmers in Uttar Pradesh, as well as neighboring states and other South Asian countries. The move is supported by the state government and is part of wider efforts to improve potato production and address the gap in per-hectare yield between Uttar Pradesh and other regions.
